Andy Pilley, the former owner of Fleetwood Town, has lost his appeal against a 13-year prison sentence for fraud. Pilley, 55, claimed his undiagnosed ADHD at the time of his trial led to an unfair conviction, but the High Court in London dismissed his appeal.
Pilley was sentenced in 2023 for his role in a multi-million pound fraud that “duped” firms into expensive energy contracts. His ADHD diagnosis, made while in prison, was cited as a reason for his poor performance during the trial.
However, Lord Justice Edis ruled that Pilley’s ADHD didn’t significantly impact his ability to participate in the trial. The court noted Pilley’s success in business, despite his condition, and the “overwhelming” evidence of his guilt.

Pilley will continue serving his sentence, and an application for costs will be made by Cheshire West and Chester Council.
